A Simple Match

After the previous marathon tutorial we decided to serve up something a wee bit shorter (but no less sweeter) this week.
Inkscape + basic shapes + a bit of free hand scribbling = a nice match
Couldn't be bothered reading?
Download the Match (SVG format)
1. Fire up inkscape
ctrl + shift + d and set the document width to 300px and height to 150px
2.Start simple
- Click on the rectangle icon on the left hand pane or press F4
- Draw a rectangle on the page
- Click on the rectangle to select it
- Set the x coordinate value to 4 and the y to 13, again in the top pane.
- Resize it to 230x20 by editing the W: and H: values in the top pane.
3. Bring out the crayons
- Inkscape will remember your previous settings, so if you'll probably want to change this;
- Press ctrl + shift + F to open the colour dialogue box.
- Click the Fill tab and set the RGBA value to d6d09bff
- Also click the Stroke (i.e. outline) tab to make sure that no stroke is set
4. Rinse and repeat
- Create another rectangle w: 230, h:3 @ x:4, y:30 - fill ffffffff with a master opacity of 15%
- Create another rectangle w: 230, h:7 @ x:4, y:13 - ffill 000000ff with a master opacity of 15%
5. Now for the head
- Create an oval like so
- Change it to path ctrl + shift + c
- f2 to drag the right most node like so
- resize it to w:50px h:40px positioned at x:228px, y:4px - fill 4b3006ff
6. A shade of darkness
- Duplicate the head ctrl + d twice.
- Drag both match heads away and overlap them as shown
- Selecting both ovals and press ctrl + - to get this
- Apply a gradient position it over the match head like so
7. Spark it up
- F6 to draw free hand flames (remove stoke) fill it f59800ff
- Position under the match
- Do another one shaped roughly like this and coloured ce5c00ff. Position above the previous flame
8. Bask in the glow of your good work
- Rectangle w:30, h:20 - x:202, y:13 - fill ffa100ff
- Then select the radial gradient and position like so and set opacity to 50%
- Finally push it under the match head (but above the match stick). You can achieve this by clicking the shown icon of pg dn
